Welcome to the UNSW Gameplayers Society web site. About usThe UNSW Gameplayers Society is a club devoted to roleplaying, card games, board games and table-top war games. We are an open society of friends and have proven a great place for new university students to meet like-minded people. RoleplayingIn roleplaying games, players assume character roles and act out improvised stories in imaginary settings. One of the players describes the setting, adjudicates the rules and invents situations for the other players to negotiate. There is a lot of variety in roleplaying, in the way the games are played and the settings. If you are interested, come along to the club or email us and find out more. Roleplaying is one of our core weekly activities. Card and Board GamesWe play all the sorts of card games and board games that you might find in a specialty games shop including Pictionary, Taboo, Settlers of Catan, Bloodbowl and RoboRally. This is only a small selection of what we play and of course we're always happy to learn a new card or board game. Collectible Card GamesThe most famous Collectable Card Game is Magic: the Gathering but there are many others. CCGs are games played with special decks of cards, particular to each game. Cards represent many things, including people, spells, places, items or events. Players strategically assemble their decks and play them in competition with other players. In general players take turns drawing cards from their deck, then play these cards to gain advantages over their opponents. Our members trade and play CCGs both casually and in organised tournaments. Table-Top War GamesTable-top war games are all games which involve battles staged between armies of miniatures. This genre is made up predominantly of Warhammer and of historical battle reenactments. Players collect and paint armies to wage war against their opponents. Each miniature has strengths and weaknesses. The better the miniature, the more points it is worth. Players assemble armies of equal points value, which are pitted against each other in elaborate miniature settings, constructed on desk tops. Our members trade and play games with miniatures both casually and in organised tournaments. Special EventsWe have been known to hold the odd special event that doesn't really fit into the above categories. Ghost story nights, quiz nights, video nights... Social EventsBeing like an extended group of friends, we often do more "ordinary" things like go to parties, the cinema, parks and the pub together. We aren't just a club, we're a big society of friends. |
